Minnesota Senator Nathan Wesenberg: Public Office Demands Transparency and Truth
LITTLE FALLS, MN, November 02, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Holding public office is one of the most noble responsibilities in a free society. Elected officials are chosen by the people to serve the people — not themselves. As Thomas Jefferson said, "When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself as public property, and justly liable to the inspection and vigilance of public opinion."
When those entrusted with power no longer serve the public good, but instead use their positions for personal or political gain, accountability is not optional — it is a duty.
Fraud and misuse of public funds are among the most damaging acts against the people's trust. The government does not "make" money; it collects it from hardworking citizens. When elected officials misuse taxpayer funds, they erode public confidence in our institutions. There must be no double standards — accountability should apply to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
"When public officials engage in misconduct, the right course of action is clear," said Senator Nathan Wesenberg. "I have called for resignations when serious allegations arose against both Democrats and Republicans. It is not about party — it is about integrity."
Recently, questions have been raised regarding federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans received by Golden Shovel Agency, a Minnesota-based firm whose Chief Financial Officer is Representative Ron Kresha. Publicly available PPP records show that the company received approximately $321,000 in federal loan funds during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to court documents, statements made under oath in a separate 2020 deposition appear inconsistent with information provided in the company's PPP loan filings. In one instance, sworn testimony indicated that Golden Shovel had no employees — only independent contractors — while PPP documentation reportedly listed multiple employees during the same period.
These apparent discrepancies have prompted a federal qui tam (whistleblower) lawsuit, allowing private citizens to assist the government in recovering funds if false claims are proven.
"This is not about political rivalry," said Wesenberg. "It's about the truth. Either false information was provided to the government or false statements were made under oath — and both are serious. Taxpayers deserve clarity and accountability."
Wesenberg emphasized that the facts must be investigated thoroughly and transparently. "If the evidence supports the allegations, then Representative Kresha must resign immediately. We cannot rebuild trust in government if we look the other way when wrongdoing is uncovered."
The senator also expressed empathy for citizens who feel betrayed by officials they once trusted. "It's hard for people to believe someone they supported could be dishonest," he said. "But real leadership means confronting corruption — not ignoring it."
"I appreciate the few House members who have had the courage to speak up against what they view as a betrayal of the public's trust," said Senator Wesenberg. "How can you look your children in the eyes and tell them you are fighting for their future if you are willing to stay silent about corruption?"
"I will continue to speak the truth, even when it's uncomfortable," Wesenberg concluded. "In the eyes of God, and for the good of our state, I am following His path."
Senator Nathan Wesenberg was elected to serve his first term in the Minnesota Senate in 2022. Before entering public service, Wesenberg worked as a wildlife biologist for the Department of Natural Resources. He has also served as a community organizer in Morrison County, helping connect conservatives across the region.
A lifelong resident of Little Falls, Nate is married to his wife, Dr. Jenny Wesenberg, and together they have three children.
Senator Wesenberg proudly represents District 10, which includes communities in Aitkin, Benton, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, and Morrison counties.
